Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Måneskin: tutti i vincitori degli iHeartRadio Music Awards

Levitating di Dua Lipa ha vinto come Song of the year agli iHeartRadio Music Awards 2022, presentati martedì 22 marzo allo Shrine Auditorium di Los Angeles. LL Cool J ha condotto lo show di due ore, andato in diretta su Fox.

Dua Lipa non era presente, per cui la categoria principale non è stata introdotta in diretta. Ma tre degli altri “top winner” erano presenti per il ritiro dei premi: Olivia Rodrigo come Female artist of the year, Lil Nas X come Male artist of the year e i Silk Sonic come Best duo/group of the year. Per tutti e tre si è trattata della prima vittoria in quelle categorie.

Ritirando il premio, Lil Nas X ha parlato della sua “follia” nell’abbandonare gli studi per cercare di sfondare nella musica, fare coming out al culmine della sua carriera e realizzare una canzone sulla passione gay, Montero (Calle Me by Your Name), diventata poi una grande hit. «Giusto fare scelte folli quando si inseguono i propri sogni», ha concluso.

Avril Lavigne, che entrò in Hot 100 con la sua prima hit, Complicated, quando aveva appena 17 anni, ha presentato il premio di Olivia Rodrigo. Quest’ultima aveva la stessa età quando ha messo a segno la sua hit globale drivers licence. Rodrigo ha anche vinto il premio come New pop artist. Inoltre la sua good 4 u, che mostra chiaramente l’influenza di un’artista come Avril Lavigne nelle sue pose pop-punk, si è aggiudicata altri due premi. La canzone ha ricevuto i premi come TikTok bop of the year e Best cover song, per la versione realizzata da Camila Cabello.

Le altre vittorie notevoli

Stay di The Kid LAROI e Justin Bieber ha vinto come Best collaboration. Fra le altre nomination, ha battuto un altro featuring di Bieber: Peaches con Daniel Caesar e Giveon.

Drake ha vinto come Hip-hop artist of the year per la quarta volta.

I Foo Fighters hanno vinto come Rock artist of the year per la seconda volta, così come Bad Bunny per Latin pop / reggaeton artist of the year.

Jazmine Sullivan ha vinto come R&B artist of the year. È la quarta volta consecutiva che un’artista donna porta a casa quel premio. H.E.R. ha vinto nei due anni passati, Ella Mai nel 2019.

Machine Gun Kelly ha vinto come Alternative rock artist of the year, per la prima volta. Prima volta anche per David Guetta come Dance artist of the year.

Lo show ha presentato nuovi artisti in sette generi: Olivia Rodrigo (pop), Måneskin (alternative), Mammoth WVH (rock), Lainey Wilson (Country), Yung Bleu (hip hop), Giveon (R&B) e Grupo Firme (latin).

I BTS hanno vinto due premi votati dal pubblico: Best fan army, per il quinto anno consecutivo, e Best music video, per Butter.

Harry Styles ha vinto per Tour of the year, un premio non assegnato l’anno scorso per via della pandemia. Il premio negli anni passati era andato ad artisti come Taylor Swift (due volte), Coldplay, U2 ed Elton John.

Jennifer Lopez ha ricevuto l’ICON award, dopo Bon Jovi (2018) ed Elton John (2021). Nel suo discorso ha detto che “ICON” nel suo caso è l’acronimo di “I can overcome negativity (posso vincere la negatività, ndt): in ogni singolo momento, e voi potete fare lo stesso”.

Lopez si è anche esibita live, così come Megan Thee Stallion, Jason Aldean, i Måneskin e il tandem John Legend & Charlie Puth. Questi ultimi, seduti al pianoforte uno di fronte all’altro, hanno cantato svariate hit di entrambi.
